Party News The holiday party was a huge success and a lot of fun as it always is. We met a few new faces, heard plans for 2008, and heard about the 2007 students of the year: Brian McKee and Gabrielle Drewes. I also highlighted my goals for 2008: 1) Open seven days a week 2) Open mornings 3) Promote three people to black belt 4) Promote five people to various ranks of brown belt 5) Hold more parties 6) Have special seminars with Master Ley, Stephen Algood, etc. 7) Finish in the top three at tournament 8) Move to a bigger location As I mentioned at the party, we need your help to achieve these. Of these eight goals, five require a student body of over 100. Also, the teacher/student ratio will NOT change whether we have 50, 100, or 200 students. I have a plan in place to accommodate the increased student body, which will only benefit our students. USSD has done studies that show ¼ of people are interested in the martial arts to one degree or another. All I ask is you put them in contact with me, I’ll handle the rest. If each of our students referred one person, we would be over that mark of 100 students, and we’ll be rocking and rolling like you never thought possible! If you need any business cards or promotional material, I have plenty to give you! Also remember that we offer a $50 credit to the dojo for any student you refer to our school who signs up with any enrollment package. 24-Hour Notice Rule: Just as a reminder, we require 24 hours notice for cancellation of private lessons in order for a make-up lesson to be scheduled. Without the 24-hour notice, it is up to the discretion of the instructor whether a make-up lesson will be scheduled. We understand that occasionally things occur that are out of our control. If you wake up the morning of your lesson with 104-degree temperature, I don’t want you here! Let me know, and we’ll usually be able to accommodate you with a make-up lesson. But please, whenever possible let us know you’ll be missing a lesson as soon as possible. Investment Opportunities: United Studios is looking to expand our area again. We are looking to open dojos in San Ramon and Novato in the near future. We have instructors that are almost ready to go, we just need the investment capitol to make it happen. If you’re interested in investing with United Studios, ask me for more information, and I’ll be happy to put you in contact with Master Ley. Health Tip of the Month: This is a new feature to my monthly newsletters. If you have any particular health questions, please ask. If none of our instructors can answer the question, I’ll be more than willing to ask our company doctor, Dr. Jeffrey Ostreicher, M.D. Almonds and walnuts (unsalted) are a great source of protein, vitamin E, fiber, magnesium, lower your cholesterol and other good stuff. They make a great snack on the run, and while they have about 12 grams of fat per serving, it is monounsaturated fats, which are far less unhealthy than other sources of fatty foods. As a general rule of thumb, one handful equals one serving.
